FAQs: How does RKVIST work?
WHAT IS IT AND HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE IT? Here’s the scoop: I made up the word RKVIST (aar-kuh-vist), but it comes from the word “ARCHIVIST” (noun) meaning someone who collects, organizes and preserves your photos and films. I am a Professional Photo Organizer, holding myself to the standards of the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals and The Photo Managers.
Please have a look at the frequently asked questions and their answers below to learn how RKVIST works! Got one for us that isn’t answered below? Get in touch with Stephanie at stephanie@rkvist.com.
With a scanning service, you ship your photos to a vendor that may or may not send your photos elsewhere for scanning. They don’t do photo correction and might give you back low-resolution scans. If you ship a box of unorganized photos, you get a DIGITAL MESS back – no organization but lots of jpegs to scroll through to find any image.
With RKVIST, you get Professional Photo Organizers who guarantee these standards:
- SAFETY: With in-home or office pick-up and on-site scanning, you can feel secure that your photos never leave our hands.
- QUALITY: All photos and films are digitized at high-resolution with professional-grade equipment. This is an important project, so you should do it the right way the first time.
- ORGANIZATION: We work together to create an organizational system for your collection around your preferences. Every item is meta tagged by date, subject, occasion so you can always find any item, every time.
- RELATIONSHIPS: We work around your needs and goals, not the other way around. We want to know our customers and make saving and organizing your photos the most user-friendly relationship around.
I don’t know – that depends on what you want to do. Are you wanting to preserve all your photos and films, or start with one project? That’s why I ask you about your goals and provide a FREE ESTIMATE. You can pay by the piece or by the bundle. The cost is up to you: how many images do you have and how organized are they? You are driving the project and you sign-off on whatever work you choose to do with RKVIST.
You could, but would you finish the project? Scanning and organizing your photos takes a loooooooooong time and is a tedious process. Finding the time and motivation to start – and finish – the job can take hours of your life that you will never get back. That’s why so many people have started, gotten overwhelmed, quit, and felt guilty about it ever since. RKVIST does the heavy lifting for you, giving you peace-of-mind your priceless photos and films are preserved for generations to come. ARE YOU A DO-IT-YOURSELFER OR A DO-IT-FOR-ME?
It’s super easy, just follow these steps:
- FREE ESTIMATE: You will tell me about you, the size of your photo and/or film collection, how organized you are, and what you want to do. I provide you with a FREE ESTIMATE.
- CONSULTATION: Once I’ve completed your estimate, we schedule a complimentary 30-minute Zoom to meet, share our estimate, explain our process, and answer any questions you might have.
- HUNT & GATHER: You will then hunt and gather all your photos and/or film and SORT according to media type (i.e., photos, slides, negatives, Hi8, DVDs, CDs, etc.).
- SCHEDULE PICK-UP OR ORDER SHIP KIT: Once you have your items ready, we will schedule a time to pick-up your order from your home or office (throughout South Florida). If you order a ship kit, we will send you a pre-addressed secure box that includes return shipping. You mail us your items and we will return ship your order after it is complete.
For digital images we follow a similar process to printed photos and film, except we ask you to HUNT & GATHER all digital images from old computers, cellphones, external hard drives, camera cards, and CDs as well as downloading items from any cloud sites like iCloud, Dropbox, Picasa, Google Photos, Shutterfly, flickr or Photobucket. RKVIST will take your digital collection and work with you to create an organizational system for your collection around your preferences, tagging every item by date, subject, and occasion. RKVIST makes sure that your organized digital collection is backed up on an external hard drive and in the cloud.
It depends on what kind of project we tackle, but here are some options:
- ORGANIZED DIGITAL PHOTOS: You’ll receive an external hard drive formatted for your computer that holds your digital collection along with a backup plan to keep your images safe.
- PRESERVED PHYSICAL PHOTOS: You’ll receive your digital collection (as listed above). If you choose, you can also have your physical photos returned to you in acid-free, archival boxes, organized to mirror your digital collection.
- RKIVE: You’ll receive a link to an online gallery that contains your organized digital collection, accessible from your desktop or cellphone.
- RSTORY: You’ll receive a finished video, professionally produced with filmed interviews, scanned photos, old films along with music and graphics. You can share this video link with family and friends.
